NSHE Scores Big as Congress Passes Federal Appropriations Bill
NSHE basketball teams aren鈥檛 the only ones scoring this March.
The 海角乱伦社区 was allocated more than $22 million when Congress passed the 2022 federal appropriations bill on March 10. President Biden signed the bill into law on March 15.
鈥淲e are grateful to our federal delegation for their work in helping secure this much-needed funding for Nevada鈥檚 public higher education system,鈥� Board of Regents Chair Cathy McAdoo said.
Nevada鈥檚 universities and colleges received funding for facilities, research equipment, and training centers that will support mental health, workforce development, student wellness, medical, science, nursing, and STEM programs.
鈥淭his funding will go a long way in helping our students realize their higher education dreams and ambitions,鈥� Chancellor Melody Rose said. 鈥淭he list of projects and programs being funded are all critical toward NSHE鈥檚 mission and educating Nevada鈥檚 workforce of tomorrow.鈥�
Chancellor Rose added that NSHE and its institutions enjoy a strong collaborative relationship with Nevada鈥檚 federal delegation and this funding opportunity is evidence of those efforts. 鈥淥ur federal delegation has a keen eye toward higher education issues and have been steadfast in their support for NSHE,鈥� said Chancellor Rose.
The NSHE projects and programs supported in the 2022 federal appropriations bill include:
- System Wide Mental Health Needs Assessment: $2.6 million (NSHE)
- HVAC training: $92,000 (CSN)
- Advanced Manufacturing Lab: $223,000 (CSN)
- Workforce Training Center: $2 million (CSN & City of Henderson)
- Climate Research Initiative: $2 million (DRI)
- STEM Education: $975,000 (DRI)
- Early Childhood Education Center: $1.6 million (NSC)
- Flood Control: $2 million (NSC & City of Henderson)
- Student Wellness Center: $1,882,000 (NSC)
- School of Nursing Technology Enhancement Bundle: $648,000 (NSC)
- Nursing Facility Expansion: $2 million (TMCC)
- Dental Facilities: $2 million (UNLV)
- School of Medicine: $1.56 million (UNLV)
- Electron Microscope for College of Sciences: $550,000 (UNLV)
- Micro-Computed Tomography Instrumentation for College of Science: $500,000 (UNLV)
- Public Health Lab: $3.1 million (UNR)
- Commercial Driving Skills Program: $700,000 (WNC)
