More than 12,000 Students Graduate from Nevada Public Higher Education Institutions
Nevada鈥檚 seven public higher education institutions graduated more than 12,000 students with doctoral, master鈥檚, bachelor鈥檚, and associate degrees, along with numerous training certificates this spring.
Two institutions, the University of Nevada, Reno and the College of Southern Nevada, both graduated the largest classes in their histories. More than 3,600 students were eligible to receive degrees or certificates from CSN and UNR conferred more than 3,200 degrees.
鈥淲ith every successful student graduation, NSHE is helping meet the needs of Nevada鈥檚 ever-growing demand for highly skilled workers,鈥� said Board of Regents Chair Kevin J. Page. 鈥淯nemployment numbers continue to drop in the Silver State and the Board of Regents remains focused on increasing student success and access to our institutions.鈥�
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation recently Nevada鈥檚 employment figures grew 3.6 percent over the past year, which is outpacing the national job growth rate of 1.8 percent.
鈥淣SHE graduates are entering the workforce at a favorable time as job growth in Nevada remains high,鈥� Chancellor Thom Reilly said. 鈥淣evada needs an educated and diverse workforce that will fit the needs of businesses here and help attract outside industry and companies to the Silver State.鈥�
More than just highly skilled, the graduates of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the University of Nevada, Reno, the College of Southern Nevada, Western Nevada College, Nevada State College, Great Basin College, and Truckee Meadows Community College are culturally and linguistically diverse and strong in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Meanwhile, NSHE continues to partner with the industry and business community to design specific training programs to fit their employment needs, Chancellor Reilly added. 鈥淥ur state鈥檚 economic success is dependent on increased participation in post-secondary education and closing the achievement gap among underserved populations,鈥� he said.
